Well This is what Awaits Dora

DOG OF THRONES

From the far lands over the narrow English channel we find castle Bracknell. There lives a queen of the Kingdom of Bekrshire, who is waiting for the Princess from DR Congo to come and rule. As the island moves from Ice into Rain the land is fertile enough to welcome the long lost dog.

As DD is only heir to the throne after the last Prince left due to true love, she will now reign with righteous feeding and promenades.

I live in hope that DD will lessen the pressure on me to lead the old kingdom. I shall move across the cold seas in the direction westereos to take up new lands.

May DD take up arms as she flies across the skies.

Dora is coming home.. yes!!!

Just received confirmation from Dr Alex that DD is now ready to fly into the UK. Quote below:

I would like to inform you of my friend, a dog called DD or Dora Dawg, headed for London Heathrow next month ( wed, 30.04.2014). Is that a good day to receive her? Otherwise, BA leaves EBB for LHR on Mon, Wed & Fri.

Mother is over the moon with the news that she has started planning a walking routine, a weekly menu and like her son a wardrobe so she fits in with the other Bracknell dogs.

Dora will be brought in by the clearing agent called Jcs livestock So hopefully that afternoon DD will be sat in my mums car with eyes wide open taking in the spring sun light that the UK will have in store for her.

Thank you so much to USPCA team and Dr Alex for their hard work teaching DD how to read. If you check their website you can see them in action. https://www.facebook.com/USPCA?fref=ts

Coming to the final steps and we shall keep you updated on her arrival.

PLEASE MAKE DONATIONS VIA PAYPAL TO HELP US RAISE FOR HER FLIGHT TICKET TO LONDON.   DD IS GRRREATFUL....

Day out with the Girl

Going to Miami..... with my new Blank dog

The Day begun with an out pour of overjoy to my presence. She howled in appreciation and laid on her back to show me her new scar. It looked still fresh but seemed under control. Plus Dora's joy told me that her physical and mental health had improved since I last saw her.

So after a quick catch up with DR Alex DD and I decided to get our shoes and leash on and head out. So we left the Dr's dig's and went on our adventure. First was to find a taxi willing to take us. As we waited at a corner of a dusty road, DD sat back and started begging with her front manicured paws for a taxi. Low and behold we got a whole minivan to ourselves. Good job Dora!

Riding in Style.. oh yeah

I was to the young taxi driver, "My good man, take my dog and I to the most happening place, and step on it." He was more than happy to comply with stepping on it. As we held on for our lives we arrived at a quiet street near Port bell. The driver was kind enough to tell us to walk down the road and there we would find Miami. Hmm.. The adventure begins.

The sun was just reaching its mid day spot, the temperature was manageable. Luckily the path looked quiet I choose to let DD chill without a leash. The day was looking awesome.

Road to Miami Beach
Excuse me, how much for a ride?
Soon we got to Miami beach with no problem. We found it quiet and empty. DD heads out to check out the new smells and I the new sights. In no time at all I am meandering around the site with a sugar-full bottle of grape mirinda. As we home into the beach we noticed some dead jet skis. Dora was quick to ask a man if she could play with them. Swiftly the man informed her that they lacked an engine and explained to her the outcome of that. DD understood and left to investigate the birds swimming by the lake shore.

Soon time came to go home, it especially came sooner as DD had a miss communication with a cat that was sat under a chair where a couple of business men were having a serious discussion.

Lets go before we get stoned.
Once back at the USPCA, DD was pleased to see Dominique her big brother and Dr Alex. Here is a picture of them both.
Good news Dr Alex plans to pack Dora's bags and book her ticket up to the non tropical island of the UK early April. Good luck to the team and Dora behave yourself.

Happy DD Days

I wanted to just share a few thoughts about DD.

DD was my team mate/occasional housemate for over a year in the Bunia, D.R. Congo.

In addition Pete and I became the involuntary, yet loving owners of her mother Grimice for some time as well. What is the point I am making? Well I don’t have one yet but I am getting to that.

I think what I want to say about DD is that living in a pretty remote place working for an NGO like we all did – looking after and playing with pets really become a way to take your mind of the busy daily tasks, the long work hours and the occasional security issues. You give a damn about these animals, perhaps understandably, would normally have a pretty horrendous life in such a context (also thinking of our parrot Bob, snif, – yes I had to slip him into this random collection of words!).

DD also needs Gabs and Kristie – I am so happy she will make it ‘out of Africa’ this time and can be with them.

I think Grimice would be proud!

Dora has just lost Her Woman Hood

We join in thoughts together as we learn of DD's loss of her womb and everything that went with it. Yes today Dr Alex finished the job and has left DD sore and childless.

I think its good news as there are too many puppies out there already with not a home and we are protecting DD from ruining her future. In a way its family planning.

Here is the new lighter DD, I have decided to keep her as a girl:

Dora as a she

Dora as a blank
I am super happy to the team in Uganda at the USPCA and for all of you who support her to make it to the UK.

DDs Progress...

Good news to all. Dora Dawg has now settled her nerves and is eating twice a day.

This is what Dr Alex said She is beginning to "fill up" after one week of diet. She looks good and lively. I believe in another week she will be better. Great news, finally.

Also her blood work was sent last week to SA to an approved EU medical test centre. The will check if she is clean and healthy to travel. Once the test results arrive Dr Alex can then begin working on her immigration paper work

In all DD is looking good for her Euro trip.

Thank you all for your support.

Lets hold hands and send Happy Vibes to Dora

Welcome to every one into 2014. DD has celebrated the new year with her dog friends in Uganda, who come from all corners of east Africa. She has friends from Congo, South Sudan and Rwanda. Her tale waggles at her new human friend Dominic. A local young man who volunteers the the practice to help walk and care for the dogs. He is DD's guardian.

Dominic takes DD out for walks on his way to school and also invites her over to his house so she can get away from the hassle of the other dogs. He also keeps rabbits which Dora loves to chase. Its is comforting to see the team really looking out for DD. As we all know DD is a picky princess and she has a very tight inner circle of friends. Also sharing is not well practiced by this only child.

The reason why we are holding hand in encouragement for DD is that she has lost her appetite. Reasons for this are many but we think its just a big change in environment and her favorite owner not being there.  The Dr claims she is suffering Dog annoerxia. More details of this condition can be found on this website:

                                                   http://www.2ndchance.info/anorexia.htm

She has lots over 10% of her weight. She is very social, needy and is happy. She eats certain bits of her meal and is taking some items off Dominic's hands. We hope her appetite opens up soon if not we may be forced to bring her back to Congo.

Below are some photos from my last visit done 07th of January this new year.
